Cannes XR Virtual Exhibit Offers Insightful Panels On VR

The legendary film festival goes virtual to deliver a series of live talks featuring some of the biggest names in the XR industry.

This week marks part two of XR3, an ambitious collaboration between Cannes XR, Tribeca, and the NewImages Festival that consists of 50 pieces of VR art from immersive artists located around the globe. Festival-goers can purchase a ticket to access a collection of genre-defying art via the Museum of Other Realities, a virtual exhibition space accessible via PC VR headsets.

Along with these incredible works of art, Cannes XR – Marché du Film is also hosting its own series of industry-focused panels featuring some of the biggest names in the world of VR. Over the next three days, you can tune in to conversations ranging from holographic filmmaking and volumetric video storytelling to digital humans and the impact of synthetic media on content creation.

There’s a lot here to enjoy, so we gathered together some of our most-anticipated panels in case you needed a little assistance planning your schedule:

VR technology comes in all shapes and sizes, from simple monoscopic 360-degree videos to more complex location-based VR experiences. In a rapidly-growing industry such as this, it’s important to distinguish the pros and cons of each of these unique formats to better identify key trends within specific target demographics.

Join Jingshu Chen, CEO and Co-Founder of Veer—one of the largest VR content platforms in the biz—as she provides her infinitely valuable insights regarding the distribution and monetization of modern cinematic VR content. The panel will also be moderated by our own Anne McKinnon, so you know ahead of time it’s going to be a great talk.

Cannes XR with TableTop Stories | Holographic Filmmaking – Artificial Reality Continuum Revolution in Storytelling | Friday, July 9th (12:30 GT + 2 / 3:30AM PT)

Over the past few years, volumetric capture—sometimes referred to as holographic filmmaking—has seen dramatic improvements in terms of technology and availability, offering a fresh generation of storytellers a new medium for creating mixed reality content using photorealistic 3D models, aka holograms.

This Friday you can listen in on a talk by Krzysztof Pietroszek, Founder & CEO of Tabletop Stories Augmented Reality Corp, a Canadian startup dealing in interactive holographic tabletop storytelling, as he provides fresh insights into how both new and veteran volumetric filmmakers can harness this new technology to develop a brand new form of digital storytelling. Pietroszek is also a professor in the Film and Media Arts Division of the School of Communication at American University in Washington, DC., as well as the Founding Director of the American University Institute for Immersive Designs, Experiences, Applications, and Stories (Institute for IDEAS).

This jam-packed panel centers around the much-talked-about VR piece Evolver-Prologue developed by Marshmellow Laser Feast in collaboration with Edward R. Pressman & Terrence Malick (Executive Producers) and produced by Atlas V & Marshmallow Laser Feast in coproduction with Orange – XR division. This narrative-driven immersive experience takes audiences on a journey of self-discovery as they follow the cardiovascular flow of the human body.

This panel will dive into the creative process as well as the future of this unique project. Speakers include Guillaume Brunet, Head of XR Orange – Spain; Antoine Cayrol, Movie Producer at immersive storytelling studio Atlas V; Samuel Pressman, VP of Production at Pressman Film; Barnaby Steel, Director and Co-Founder of Marshmellow Laser Feast; and Eleanor Whitley, Executive Producer at Marshmellow Laser Feast. Some us know all relating to the compelling medium you present powerful steps on this blog and therefore strongly encourage contribution from other ones on this subject while our own child is truly discovering a great deal. Have fun with the remaining portion of the year.

I simply wanted to thank you so much again. I am not sure the things that I might have gone through without the type of hints revealed by you regarding that situation.
